The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has announced the suspension of the foreign component of its TETFund Scholarship for Academic Staff (TSAS) Intervention. The decision, effective January 1, 2025, is attributed to rising overseas training costs and instances of scholars absconding.
In a letter dated November 25, 2024, signed by TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, beneficiary institutions were advised to prioritize local training to reduce foreign exchange pressure and enhance capacity in Nigerian institutions.
Echono clarified that ongoing foreign-sponsored scholars would continue receiving funding until they complete their programs. The suspension aims to conserve resources while expanding the programme’s reach within Nigeria.
