Supporters of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and the 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, clashed on Sunday at the Kofar Kudu Palace.
The unrest reportedly began when Bayero’s convoy passed near the palace. The gate was broken, guards injured, and police vehicles vandalised. Emir Sanusi was said to be away at the time.
A statement by Sanusi’s camp accused Bayero’s supporters of “unleashing mayhem,” while a member of Bayero’s entourage claimed they were attacked by hoodlums blocking the road.
The Kano police confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
Residents have voiced concern, calling on both camps to allow the courts to decide and avoid actions that could threaten Kano’s peace.
