An elementary school teacher in Daejeon has admitted to fatally stabbing an 8-year-old student after she claimed to have been excluded from a class.
According to police, the teacher—who is in her 40s and has been treated for depression—said she grew frustrated just three days after returning from a six‐month sick leave.
On Tuesday, she purchased a weapon and waited for students to leave an after-school class. “I told the last child leaving that I would give her a book,” she reportedly said, before taking the student to a classroom where she stabbed and strangled her.
The injured child was rushed to a hospital but later pronounced dead from severe blood loss.
Authorities noted that the teacher had shown signs of aggression previously, including an incident on February 6 when she injured a fellow teacher.
The suspect also harmed herself and is now receiving treatment. Police have ordered an autopsy by the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.
