An Improvised Explosive Device (IED), believed to have been planted by Boko Haram insurgents, killed multiple people on Monday near Rann in Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to local and security sources, the explosion occurred around 11 a.m. along the Furunduma axis, roughly 11 kilometres from Rann town. A vehicle transporting passengers to Gamboru Ngala reportedly triggered the device.
“There was a loud blast after the vehicle hit the IED. It’s hard to say exactly how many died, but at least four women, six children, and several men lost their lives,” one of the sources told Trust TV.
Injured survivors were taken to Rann Hospital for medical care.
As of the time of filing this report, the military and police had not issued an official statement. Efforts to reach Borno Police Command spokesperson Kenneth Daso were unsuccessful, as his phone line was unavailable.
