President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially closed Jim Obazee’s investigation into the operations of the central bank of Nigeria under the leadership of its former governor, Godwin Emefiele.
President Tinubu had appointed Obazee as a special investigator to probe the apex bank and its operations and other related entities, as stated in the official presidential declaration dated July 28th, 2023.
Expressing gratitude to Obazee, who is also a former chief executive officer of the financial reporting council of Nigeria (FRC), President Tinubu commended him for serving as the special investigator of the CBN and other associated institutions since his appointment. The president appreciated Obazee’s commitment and expertise in managing the intricacies of this vital national task, noting the importance and sensitivity of the assignment.
Following the completion of the assignment and the submission of a final detailed report, along with wrapping up all equipment used within the project, which ended on March 31st, 2024, the investigation is officially closed. All relevant law enforcement and regulatory agencies are currently pursuing further action.
Recall the former CBN governor has been embroiled in several court battles and the new chief of the central bank have been rolling back some of his predecessor’s policies.
