South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced significant changes to visa requirements for Nigerians, allowing applicants to process visas without submitting their passports. Speaking at the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, he also revealed a five-year multiple entry visa for qualifying Nigerian tourists and businesspeople.
The move aims to enhance bilateral ties and promote business and tourism. Ramaphosa emphasized eliminating investment barriers while reaffirming South Africa’s openness to Nigerian enterprises.
Additionally, both nations agreed to finalize the delayed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Early Warning Mechanism by March 2025 to address violence and criminal threats involving their nationals.
The leaders also adopted a united stance on the Middle East crisis, urging a ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution. President Bola Tinubu called for strengthened Nigeria-South Africa collaboration to drive economic integration and continental growth.
