Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked military bases in Wajirko (Damboa LGA) and Wulgo (Gamboru Ngala LGA) of Borno State, killing at least two soldiers.

A military source said a convoy carrying the new Brigade Commander of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in Damboa hit landmines planted by the terrorists. “The commander and several soldiers sustained injuries, while some terrorists were killed,” he added.

The attack comes as the government pushes to reopen the 185km Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road, closed due to security threats.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) condemned the resurgence of attacks, calling for advanced military strategies, including drones, to tackle insurgency.

Efforts to reach the police for comments were unsuccessful.
