The Senate has moved to tackle illegal drug activities in the FCT following Trust TV’s investigative report that uncovered rampant drug dealing in Abuja.
Senator Suleiman Kawu (Kano South), who raised the motion during Thursday’s plenary, described the situation as alarming and called for urgent national action. He proposed mandatory drug tests for public office seekers, routine testing in the private sector, and the declaration of a synthetic drug emergency.
Kawu praised Trust TV’s exposé as a bold contribution to public safety and urged the Senate to set up a committee to investigate the report’s findings, audit security agencies, and push for accountability.
Although the motion was not debated, Senate President Godswill Akpabio addressed students visiting the chamber, urging them to stay away from drugs and warning of their link to crime and ruined lives.
