First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, saying the Senate is handling the matter appropriately.

Speaking through her spokesperson, Bukola Kukoyi, she reacted to the allegations of sexual harassment Akpoti-Uduaghan leveled against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“I believe the Senate is doing what is needful. It is a mature chamber and should be treated with respect,” she said. She also urged women in leadership to assert themselves and not allow disrespect.

The Senate suspended Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months following an Ethics Committee report on her alleged breach of Senate rules. The decision came after she clashed with Akpabio over seating arrangements and accused him of obstructing her motions.
