The Senate on Wednesday adopted the harmonised version of four tax reform bills following a joint review with the House of Representatives.

The bills include the Joint Revenue Board Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service Bill, Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, and the Nigeria Tax Bill—all for the 2025 fiscal year.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent the bills to the National Assembly in November 2024, but their content sparked public backlash from governors, civil society groups, and opposition parties.

After wide consultations, both chambers made changes and set up a conference committee to align their versions. The final report was presented by Senator Sani Musa, who chaired the Senate side of the committee.

The adoption moves the bills closer to being signed into law as part of the government’s broader tax reforms.
