Senate Adjourns Plenary Over Jigawa Lawmaker’s Death

The Nigerian senate, on Tuesday, adjourned plenary in honour of a member of the house of representatives, Isa Dogonyaro, who died on Friday after a brief illness.

The upper chamber also held a minute silence in honour of the lawmaker before the adjournment.

Until his death, the lawmaker represented Babura/Garki federal constituency of Jigawa state in the 10th house of representatives, he was 46 years old.

The decision to suspend plenary was in line with the tradition of the national assembly, following a motion moved by the deputy senate leader, Lola Ashiru, and seconded by the minority leader, Abba Moro. Senator Ashiru said “in line with our traditions, in order to keep our honour and solidarity with our colleagues in the house of representatives, I wish to move that we adjourn our sitting till Wednesday, 15 May 2024”

The president of the senate Godswill Akpabio while putting the motion to a voice vote which was unanimously supported by senators, commiserated with the family of the deceased lawmaker and the government and people of Jigawa state as a whole.
