The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has spoken out regarding last week’s blockade of the Gidan Rumfa Palace by security forces. The reasons for the action remain unclear, though some attribute it to a planned installation ceremony for Munir Sanusi, the new District Head of Bichi, while others link it to a proposed discussion on controversial tax reform bills.
Speaking to a Bichi delegation who visited to express allegiance, the Emir described the incident as a distraction and urged residents to maintain peace and pray for resolution. He assured the delegation that the District Head’s ceremony would proceed peacefully at a later date.
Sanusi fondly recalled his deep ties to Bichi, calling it a second home from his childhood vacations and praising its peaceful and educated people. The delegation, led by local leaders, reaffirmed their loyalty to the Emir.
