A Rivers lawmaker, Solomon Bob, has criticised the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) over its stance on the recent state of emergency declared in the state, calling the group hypocritical and politically biased.

He also demanded the NBA return N300 million allegedly paid to it by the state government for its annual conference earlier planned for Port Harcourt. Bob dismissed the NBA’s claim that the money was a gift, saying such justification was “unbecoming of a self-proclaimed watchdog.”

Bob defended President Tinubu’s action, citing rising political tension, threats of impeachment, and attacks on critical infrastructure in Rivers as reasons for the emergency declaration. He insisted that Section 305 of the Constitution empowers the President to act in such situations.

He also questioned the NBA’s credibility, claiming the association lacked the moral authority to lecture others on democratic values.
