A deadly clash unfolded between rival cult groups in Pakata area of Ilorin west local government area of Kwara state, leaving one person dead, several others injured with properties worth millions of Naira, including houses and vehicles destroyed.
Preliminary reports indicate that a suspected cultist identified simply as “Abiodun”, over the weekend, gunned down a member of rival group named Yusuf after a disagreement. Members of Yusuf’s gang then went on retaliatory attacks, injuring many and destroying properties.
The situation took a turn for the worse when the gang of the deceased stormed a compound suspected to be the resident of the assailant, armed with guns, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons to avenge his death.
According to eyewitnesses, over six cars were destroyed and many people injured during the attack.
The spokeswoman for the state police command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident and said, “investigation is still ongoing.”
The initial suspect, Abiodun, is reported to be at large with the police setting up a manhunt for his arrest.
