Reps move to extend 2024 capital budget to Dec 31

The House of Representatives has moved to extend the implementation of the capital component of the 2024 national budget until December 31, 2025.

The proposal, which passed second reading during plenary on Tuesday, was presented by Deputy Majority Leader, Ibrahim Abdullahi Halims.

The bill, titled A Bill for an Act to Amend the 2024 Appropriation Act to Further Extend the Capital Components of the Act From 30th June 2025 to 31st December, 2025 and for Related Matters (HB.2404), seeks to give more time for the execution of capital projects under the current budget.

Speaker Abbas Tajudeen said the extension was necessary, noting that the implementation of the 2024 budget had not progressed as expected.

After a voice vote, the bill was referred to the Committee on Supply for further legislative action.
