The House of Representatives has approved a total budget of N1.486 trillion for Rivers State in the 2025 fiscal year.
The approval followed the adoption of the report by the House Ad-hoc Committee on Rivers State, presented by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, during Tuesday’s plenary.
According to the breakdown, N256.4 billion was allocated for personnel costs, N162.6 billion for overheads, and N1.066 trillion for capital projects.
However, lawmakers slashed N35 billion from funds initially set aside for CCTV installations, gunboat purchases, and surveillance contracts. The committee said those cuts were made to redirect over N30 billion of the security-related spending to other key sectors.
While presenting the report, Ihonvbere explained that the adjustments were necessary to ensure better accountability and to make sure the state’s resources are used on priority areas that would directly benefit the people.
