Angry protesters set fire to the Gwer West LG secretariat and the palace of Ter Nagi, Chief Daniel Abomtse, in Naka, Benue State, following the killing of three community guards.
The unrest began after youths retrieved the bodies of the slain guards, who were attacked by suspected bandits on Monday evening. A resident said the protesters were frustrated over the government’s inaction on recurring attacks.
LG Chairman Victor Ormin confirmed the destruction, saying hoodlums hijacked the protest. Meanwhile, the police have yet to comment on the incident.
