Police Rescue 12 Trafficked Children in Imo

Imo State Police have rescued 12 children and arrested a woman suspected of trafficking them for street begging in Aba, Abia State.

Police spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, said the suspect, 42-year-old Ann Ngozi Enyenwa, was intercepted during a stop-and-search operation along the Owerri-Aba Expressway on June 20.

He said the children, aged between 5 and 13, appeared malnourished and distressed, prompting immediate investigation. The suspect claimed she worked with a motherless babies’ home in Rivers State, where the money from the children’s street begging was allegedly sent.

The rescued children are now in police custody, and authorities are calling on anyone who may recognise them or know their families to come forward.
