Four kidnap and murder suspects alleged to be involved in recent inter-confraternity clashes between different cult groups in Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom state and its environs have been arrested.
Police public relations officer, Akwa Ibom state command, ASP Timfon John said the suspects confessed to the crimes on interrogation. He also vowed that the command was determined to rid the state of criminal elements.
ASP John revealed that ammunitions like one English pump action rifle, one short machine gun (SMG), one locally made revolver pistol, eleven rounds of 9mm ammunitions, and four rounds live cartridges were recovered from the suspects operational base in Uyo.
She said, “sequel to the complaints received by the Command on an inter-confraternity clash between different cult groups ongoing in Eket and its environs, the commissioner of police, Waheed Ayilara, gave a matching order to the divisional police officer (DPO) Eket, SP Felix Ekpoudom, for the perpetrators to be fished out and prosecuted.
“In compliance with these directives based on credible information at our disposal, operatives of Eket Division arrested one Godwin Adam, Alias ‘Nasarawa’, 35 years -old of Idong Useme village; one Isaac Samuel Bassey, 25 years of Assang Usong Inyong, and one Emmanuel Hanson Isong, 29 years of Idung Uso village, all of Eket LGA.
The suspects confessed to being members of Black Axe Confraternity and also suspected to be involved in the gruesome murder of one Kufre Usoro aka ‘Promzy’, 32 years, said to be a member of Klanz Cult group, who was murdered on Thursday, April 4, 2024.
Among those arrested is one victor Usoro Eyire aka “Tender”, of Iseyiridua village, in Eket local government, who has been on the command’s wanted list for being a ringleader terrorizing Eket/Etinan/Ekparakwa axis.
