The Plateau State Government has asked the Federal Government to withdraw soldiers from troubled areas and deploy mobile police units instead.
This follows the killing of 27 people in Riyom LGA. Governor Caleb Mutfwang, during a visit to the affected communities, blamed security operatives for failing to prevent the attack or arrest the perpetrators.
In a statement on Friday, his Special Envoy on Peace and Security, Prof. Chris Kwaja, said the military presence has not been effective. He urged the government to replace soldiers with mobile police, who he said are better trained for such security challenges.
