There was a slight pandemonium at the PDP headquarters on Wednesday, as protesters take over the building complex in their support for the acting national chairman of the party, Umar Damagun and the minister of federal capital territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The protesters displayed varying placards with inscriptions pledging support for Wike and Damagun, alleging that some elements within the party are trying to cause disaffection among the party’s leadership.

PDP has recently been rocked by agitations from some of its members calling for the resignation of the national working committee (NWC) over what they describe as a failure to lead the party aright.

The development comes after the NWC in a statement by the national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, passed a vote of confidence on the acting chairman, assuring its members of continued stability, growth and success of the party.

The decision of the NWC which came at the end of its 584th meeting at the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday, is, according to the party, in commendation of the efforts and commitment of the acting national chairman, to stabilise and reposition the PDP as the main opposition party in Nigeria.
