The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has criticized Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration for alleged failures in governance. PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, accused the administration of ignoring democratic principles, focusing on “white elephant projects,” and neglecting pressing issues like unpaid salary arrears and decaying infrastructure.

In response, Governor Alia, through his media aide Tersoo Kula, defended his administration, highlighting efforts to address challenges inherited from the previous government. He cited initiatives in food security, infrastructure development, and youth employment, emphasizing stakeholder engagement to ensure inclusivity and progress.

Nyor claimed the government operated like a religious institution, isolating citizens from decision-making processes. He urged Governor Alia to fulfill campaign promises, noting increased federal allocations. Alia, however, labelled PDP’s critique as out of touch with the realities of governance, pointing to his administration’s strides in improving the lives of Benue citizens.

The back-and-forth underscores the continuing political tensions in Benue, as both parties exchange accusations over the state’s governance trajectory.
