Obi leads protesters to N/Assembly over real-time transmission of election results

Peter Obi, leading Presidential hopeful for the 2027 elections, has led protesters to the National Assembly.

The politician, who is joined by many of his supporters including Aisha Yesufu, a popular activist, is currently at the entrance to the parliamentary building.

“We have suffered the danger. We don’t want any glitch again. We want things to go well. Allow the elections to go through the normal process. Whoever wins, we would accept,” Obi said.

“So, why are you bringing this confusion?”

The protesters stormed the area to demand approval o f real-time electronic transmission of results from polling units in the Electoral Amendment Bill under consideration.

The security forces comprising mainly of the police with Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps as well as other paramilitary agencies stationed their vans around as their men manned strategic locations to ensure order.

Daily Trust reports that controversies have continued to trail the ongoing amendment of the Electoral Act ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly over the real-time transmission of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While many Nigerians have called on lawmakers to make real-time electronic transmission of results mandatory, some legislators have argued that it should remain discretionary.
