The EFCC has presented a statement from former President Olusegun Obasanjo in the trial of ex-Minister of Power, Dr Olu Agunloye, over the controversial $6bn Mambilla power project.
Agunloye is accused of awarding the contract to Sunrise Power in 2003 without approval or budgetary backing. He allegedly received over ₦5 million in suspicious payments linked to the deal.
A witness, ACP Umar Babangida, told the court that Obasanjo confirmed he never approved the award. The EFCC also tendered Obasanjo’s letter stating the Federal Executive Council only directed Agunloye to present the matter formally but didn’t approve it.
The defence objected but didn’t give immediate reasons. The court admitted the document temporarily and adjourned to June 18.
