Mudashiru Obasa, the embattled former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has strongly declared that he remains the Speaker, challenging the impeachment process carried out by the Assembly on January 13.

The lawmaker’s statement comes after he was removed from office amid allegations of misconduct and the controversial spending of N17 billion on a gate for the Assembly complex. While Obasa was away during the impeachment proceedings, his supporters welcomed him back to his Ikeja residence on Saturday, where he addressed the media.

“I believe I am still the Speaker until the proper legal procedures are followed,” Obasa insisted. “If they want to remove me, it must be done the right way, and I won’t resist.”

He further stated that as a Muslim, he believes in fate but stressed the importance of doing things properly.

When asked about the possibility of legal action in response to his removal, Obasa responded cryptically, “Time will tell. You will know soon. Thank you and God bless you.”
