The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested several Chinese nationals allegedly involved in illegal mining activities in Agwada, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Victor Jerry, the Public Relations Officer of the command, confirmed the arrests during a phone interview with Daily Trust in Lafia on Monday. He explained that the operation was carried out by the NSCDC’s mining marshal unit.
According to Jerry, the suspects were apprehended following reports of their unlawful mining operations in the area. “The command received information early Monday from its mining marshal unit in Abuja, confirming the arrest of Chinese nationals engaged in illegal mining activities in Agwada, Kokona LGA,” he stated.
He further mentioned that the exact number of those arrested and their current location is still being determined, as an investigation is underway to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
