The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has urged Benue State residents to refrain from eating rats as a precautionary measure against the spread of Lassa fever.
During a press briefing marking the agency’s nationwide Lassa fever prevention campaign, NOA’s State Coordinator, Bitrus Audu, highlighted that rat consumption is particularly common in the region, especially during the hunting season.
Audu emphasized the importance of educating the public about the risks of consuming rats, as the multimammate rat, a primary carrier of the Lassa virus, is prevalent in rural areas.
