A Hisbah official, Malam Aliyu Dakata, has confirmed that there is no evidence supporting claims of an illicit relationship between Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, and a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, following their arrest at an uncompleted building.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Dakata stated that Sankara had not engaged in any immoral activity. “When we arrived, Tasleem was in her car making a phone call, while Sankara stood in the compound of the under-construction building, which he owns. There was no indication of any inappropriate relationship,” he clarified, dismissing the allegations circulating on social media.
The initial claims had sparked controversy and led to Sankara’s suspension by the Jigawa State governor, painting the commissioner in a negative light.
Earlier, Tasleem’s lawyer, Barrister Rabiu Shuaibu, explained that she had been estranged from her husband for over 10 months due to domestic violence. Shuaibu said Tasleem, who now runs a business to support her children, was simply delivering food to Sankara after he placed an order, unaware that her husband was monitoring her movements.
Sankara, addressing the accusations, strongly denied the claims, calling them unfounded and politically motivated. “These accusations are completely false. I hold the institution of marriage in high regard and would never engage in such conduct. This is a deliberate attempt to damage my reputation,” he said.
