The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) and its partners have ramped up crude oil and gas production to 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd) and 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (scfd), a significant leap in output.
During a press briefing, the company attributed this achievement to the successful implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directives. Mr. Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC, extended his congratulations to the Production War Room Team for their instrumental role in this production recovery.
Kyari praised the team for not only recovering production but also surpassing the expected targets. “The team has been crucial in driving this project, ensuring that our production levels meet both short- and long-term expectations of our shareholders, guided by the mandates from the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board,” Kyari said.
Mr. Lawal Musa, the Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser to the Group CEO, shared insights into the collective efforts that contributed to this progress. According to Musa, the achievement was made possible through the combined work of Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract partners, as well as the support from the Office of the National Security Adviser, and both government and private security agencies.
He highlighted the role of security in safeguarding the production chain, particularly with close monitoring of pipelines by security forces. Musa pointed out that when the Production War Room was established on June 25, 2024, production was at 1.43 mbpd. However, by August, the team had elevated production to 1.7 mbpd, and by November, it had reached 1.8 mbpd.
“We are optimistic that, with continued collaboration and security cooperation, we can achieve 2 mbpd by the end of the year,” Musa added.
Chief Pius Akinyelure, Chairman of the NNPC Ltd Board of Directors, expressed his pride in the progress made, saying he was thrilled to be part of the production recovery journey. “Leaving today, I am filled with joy,” Akinyelure stated. He urged NNPC management to develop a cashflow projection based on the new production levels to guide future planning, while also setting sights on a long-term target of 3 mbpd.
In response, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), commended the team’s efforts and assured that the Federal Government would continue to support NNPC in achieving even greater milestones.
