The Federal Government has set September 2025 as the new date to enforce a ban on 60,000-litre fuel tankers.

NMDPRA CEO, Farouk Ahmed, said the move aims to reduce accidents linked to overloaded tankers. He explained that enforcement will begin gradually, with full compliance expected by Q4 2025.

Ahmed, represented by Dr. Mustapha Lamorde, said the decision followed agreement with stakeholders. Tankers will be limited to carrying 45,000 litres to enhance safety.

The FRSC blamed reckless driving and alcohol use for many tanker crashes, urging transporters to install speed limiters and ensure drivers follow road safety rules.

NARTO also called on drivers to prioritise safety to avoid road disasters.
