The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said nothing has been decided yet, following the disclosure of its tentative agreement with the federal government and that the ongoing nationwide strike will continue until further communication is done.
The union, in a post on the social media platform, X (FKA Twitter), on Tuesday morning, said the industrial action which has grounded the nation’s economy will continue until the conclusion of Tuesday’s meeting of organs of the union where all resolutions of Monday’s meeting are expected to be reviewed and adopted or dispelled.
“Until we hear from our organs at our meeting scheduled for today 4th June, we are still on strike,” the post read.
The leadership of the organised labour held a meeting with critical stakeholders at the behest of the secretary to the government of the federation, SGF, on Monday evening in Abuja, where the federal government expressed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to raise the minimum wage beyond the ₦60,000 initially offered by the government.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria is committed to a National Minimum Wage that is higher than ₦60,000.
“Arising from the above, the Tripartite Committee is to meet every day for the next one week with a view to arriving at an agreeable National Minimum Wage;” a statement issued at the end of the meeting read.
Activities nationwide have been grounded since labour went on strike on Monday.
