NIMC Warns Against Extortion, Says NIN Registration Is Free

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reaffirmed that the registration for the National Identification Number (NIN) is entirely free of charge. This clarification comes amidst reports of extortion at some registration centres across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Head of Corporate Communications, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, emphasized that neither NIMC staff nor its Front End Partners (FEPs) are authorized to demand money for NIN enrollment.

“The Commission does not charge or authorize any staff or FEP to collect fees for NIN registration. Any individual or entity caught engaging in such activities will face strict legal sanctions, including withdrawal of operational licenses,” Adegoke stated.

NIMC urged Nigerians to report cases of extortion through its official email, customercare@nimc.gov.ng, or via the helpline 07002255646. The agency reiterated its commitment to providing smooth and transparent registration services while working to eliminate unethical practices.
