Nigeria played a key role in facilitating the evacuation of critically ill infants from war-torn Gaza to hospitals in Jordan, Egypt, and the UAE, Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar revealed on Thursday.
Speaking at the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja, Tuggar said the Red Cross had sought Nigeria’s assistance in relocating the babies, many of whom had severe medical conditions.
He explained that while Nigeria couldn’t risk transporting the fragile infants across long distances, the government used diplomatic channels to secure their treatment in nearby countries.
“We reached out to the Foreign Ministers of Jordan, the UAE, and Egypt, urging them to take in the children, and alhamdulillah, they agreed,” Tuggar stated.
