The Federal Government of Nigeria has categorically denied allegations of involvement in the December 13 attack on the Niger-Benin oil pipeline in Gaya, Niger Republic. The Nigerien authorities claimed the Lakurawa terrorist group, aided by Nigerian forces, was behind the incident.
In a statement on Saturday, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa dismissed the claims as baseless, asserting Nigeria’s commitment to combating terrorism and rejecting any suggestion of collusion with such groups.
Nigeria also refuted allegations of French troops stationed in its northern region plotting against Niger, describing the accusations as unfounded. The ministry emphasized Nigeria’s longstanding cordial relations with Niger and France, based on mutual respect and non-interference.
The Federal Government assured its continued dedication to peaceful cooperation with Niger Republic for the benefit of both nations’ citizens.
