The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has suspended the implementation of the 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) charge on imports to allow for further stakeholder consultations.
According to a statement issued by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, the decision follows discussions with the Minister of Finance, Olawale Edun, and aligns with the expiration of contracts with service providers previously funded through the 1% Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme (CISS).
The suspension aims to refine the revenue framework and ensure a smooth transition under the Nigeria Customs Service Act (NCSA) 2023. The NCS remains committed to modernising its operations through digital solutions like the B’Odogwu clearance system, Single Window implementation, and electronic data exchange.
