Vice President Kashim Shettima says Nigeria remains committed to the global ban on nuclear tests.
Speaking during a visit by the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO), Dr Robert Floyd, Shettima said Africa’s priority is tackling poverty and climate change, not nuclear weapons.
“We have no business with nuclear arms. Our fight is against poverty and ecological challenges,” he said.
He praised CTBTO’s global monitoring network for its role in detecting nuclear tests and natural disasters.
Dr Floyd commended Nigeria’s support through the Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority, describing the partnership as strong and essential.
