A new terror group known as Mahmuda has launched deadly attacks in Kwara and Niger States, killing vigilantes and residents.

On Sunday night, gunmen in military gear opened fire at a market in Ilesha Baruba, Kwara, killing six, including four Fulani men, a vigilante, and a teenager. Another vigilante was killed the same night in nearby Kaiama.

Locals say the attacks are reprisals for community support to security agencies. The group, believed to have roots in Niger State, has been active in Kwara’s Baruten and Kaiama LGAs, as well as parts of Niger’s Borgu area.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq visited the affected communities and pledged stronger military collaboration to restore peace.
