A new armed group identified as Mahmuda is said to be operating around Kaiama and Baruten LGAs of Kwara State, with locals reporting attacks on villages near the Kainji Lake National Park.

Residents told Trust TV that the group has taken control of farming, logging, and trading routes in the area, demanding payments from locals and threatening them to stay off their farmlands.

“They’ve killed over 10 hunters and vigilantes,” one source said, adding that a recent military airstrike on their hideout may have triggered fresh attacks.

While police are yet to comment on the latest incident, they earlier denied claims that armed bandits fleeing Zamfara had settled in Kwara, insisting the state remains safe.
