The Nigerian Navy has destroyed five illegal refineries and seized over 50,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil in Rivers State.

The operation, led by NNS Pathfinder on June 14, took place in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA. The team uncovered 62 refining ovens, 55 pits, and 21 reservoirs filled with crude and illegally refined products.

Commander Cajethan Aniaku said about 83,000 litres of diesel and 20,000 litres of kerosene were also recovered. Though no arrests were made, he said the operation was a major step in tackling oil theft and protecting Nigeria’s economy.
