A native doctor, Ismail Usman, sustained serious injuries after testing a self-made “bulletproof” charm in Kuchibiyi community, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory. The incident occurred on Thursday when Usman shot himself in the stomach with a locally made gun to demonstrate the charm’s effectiveness.
Eyewitnesses reported that Usman collapsed immediately, prompting neighbours to rush him to the hospital. He was first treated at Kubwa General Hospital before being transferred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital in Gwagwalada for further care.
FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, noting that officers recovered a homemade gun and several charms from the native doctor’s residence.
Adeh revealed that investigations are ongoing and that Usman could face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, condemned the reckless behaviour and urged residents to avoid illegal and dangerous practices.
