NAFDAC Pushes for Death Penalty Against Fake Drug Dealers

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has urged the National Assembly to amend laws to impose life imprisonment or the death penalty on those involved in fake drug production and sales.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said counterfeit drugs are causing numerous deaths daily. She revealed that a recent enforcement operation in Aba, Onitsha, and Lagos led to the seizure of 87 truckloads of fake medicines and over 40 arrests.

She also linked the sale of illicit drugs to rising security threats, stressing the need for stricter penalties to deter offenders.
