The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has cautioned the federal government against intimidating former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, warning that such actions could damage President Tinubu’s democratic image.
MURIC’s Executive Director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, issued the warning following El-Rufai’s claim of a plot to arrest him over his criticism of the APC-led government.
“Considering El-Rufai’s contributions to the party’s victory in 2023 and his role in President Tinubu’s emergence, we urge the federal government not to suppress dissent,” Akintola said.
He added that allowing El-Rufai to move freely would demonstrate the administration’s commitment to democracy and earn Nigeria respect globally.
