At least seven people were attacked and killed in a community in Nasarawa state. The victims include a mother and her six-year-old child who were reportedly shot dead by suspected armed men who invaded their Ugya community in Toto local government area of Nasarawa state.
Confirming the incident, a resident of the community, Ibrahim Alkali, said the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday. Mr. Alkali claimed the armed men came through the bush path and launched the attack. He said the attackers were wielding sophisticated weapons and suddenly started shooting sporadically into the air, forcing some residents to run out of houses in a bid to escape.
According to him, some troops deployed to the community swiftly mobilized to the scene upon hearing the sporadic gun shots, adding that the gunmen had fled before the troops arrived the scene.
Alkali, added that the gunmen also set three vehicles ablaze and also burgled some shops, carting away food stuffs, drugs and other valuables items.
Also confirming the incident, the chairman of Toto Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, said seven residents were killed by the gun men.
Reports from the area suggest all the victims have since been buried.
The Nasarawa state police command is yet to comment on the report at the time of filing.
