The palace of the Etsu Nupe Lokoja, HRH Emmanuel Akamisoko Dauda-Shelika, Nyamkpa IV, was attacked by hoodlums in the early hours of Saturday. The assailants set a vehicle ablaze, forcing the monarch to flee for his life.
Recounting the incident, HRH Dauda-Shelika described hearing a loud bang and spotting flames consuming his car. Fearing for his safety, he escaped through the back door and scaled a fence.
Despite neighbours’ attempts to extinguish the fire, the vehicle and other belongings were destroyed. The monarch has urged authorities to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice, while calling on Nupe natives to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
The attack occurred just days before the Nupe Natives of Lokoja Development Union was set to host the 2nd Edition of the “Lokoja ’24 Nupe Cultural Fiesta.” Efforts to reach the Kogi Police Command for comments were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
