Seven children’s bodies were found days after a deadly flood hit Mokwa town in Niger State. The death toll is now at least 160, but officials say more victims may still be missing.

Locals helped recover the bodies buried under debris. An 18-seater bus was also swept away by the floodwaters, and neither the bus nor the passengers have been found.

Many victims say they haven’t received food or aid, while others criticize how relief is being shared. Some say people not affected are getting help instead.

The federal government sent a team to express sympathy and promised support, but residents and activists say officials didn’t visit the worst-hit areas and called the response weak.

Authorities say the flood was caused by heavy rains, blocked waterways, and climate change—not dam releases. They warn about the need for better drainage and moving people away from flood zones.

The Northern Elders Forum called for urgent help for the victims and strong government action to prevent future disasters.
