The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, has cautioned Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, to avoid divisive comments regarding the Kano emirate dispute.

Speaking through his media aide, Adamu Aminu Fagge, the minister condemned Kwankwaso’s recent claim that Lagos was attempting to “colonize” Kano by interfering in the emir’s selection. Kwankwaso made these remarks at the Skyline University convocation, alleging external meddling in Kano’s traditional affairs.

Ata emphasized that the emirate issue is currently before the courts, making such statements potentially contemptuous. He urged leaders to focus on constructive dialogue, warning that inflammatory rhetoric could worsen tensions during a time of national challenges. The minister reiterated the need for responsible leadership to promote unity across the country.
