A groundbreaking drug, HMI-115, is providing new hope for women with endometriosis, a chronic womb condition that affects one in ten women and often leads to infertility. Unlike existing treatments, HMI-115 reduces pain while allowing patients to conceive during treatment.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the womb lining grows elsewhere, causing severe pain and inflammation. While previous drugs, such as relugolix, ease symptoms, they disrupt the menstrual cycle, preventing pregnancy.

In trials, HMI-115, developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Hope Medicine, reduced pain by 42% without affecting menstrual cycles. Professor Rui-Ping Xiao, leading the research at Tsinghua University, hailed the drug as a breakthrough after decades of unmet demand for effective alternatives.

Hope Medicine plans to begin a larger global trial soon, offering fresh optimism to endometriosis patients, who typically endure an eight-year wait for diagnosis.
