Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have eliminated Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, during a series of intense military operations in Zamfara and Sokoto states.

The operations, carried out between January 20 and 21, also targeted Turji’s stronghold, resulting in the deaths of over 24 terrorists, including key commanders such as Abu Dan Shehu, Jabbi Dogo, and Kabiru Gebe. Turji’s brother, Dosso, and a close associate, Danbokolo, sustained severe injuries.

A primary school in Zamfara repurposed as a logistics base for the terrorists was destroyed, further weakening their operational capacity.

Major-General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, described the offensive as a significant blow to the bandit network, which has been responsible for kidnappings and attacks across the region.

“The death of Turji’s deputy and top commanders disrupts their operations and marks progress in securing the Northwest,” he said.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to continuing operations until all terrorist threats are neutralized.
