A Max Air flight heading to Abuja made an emergency landing at the Muhammadu Buhari International Airport in Maiduguri on Wednesday after suffering engine damage caused by a suspected bird strike.
Among the over 100 passengers on board was Borno State Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, who escaped unhurt along with others. The incident occurred just 10 minutes after takeoff.
An official revealed that a replacement aircraft was sent from Lagos to transport passengers to their destination. Engineers from Kano were deployed to repair the damaged plane.
When contacted, the Manager of Max Air in Maiduguri, Musa Bawuro, confirmed awareness of the incident but refrained from commenting until further details were available. “I need to get confirmation from the captain before providing details,” he stated.
