The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) says local refineries supply less than 50% of the country’s daily petrol consumption, with imports covering the shortfall.

NMDPRA’s Executive Director, Ogbugo Ukoha, said, “If we don’t bridge the gap through imports, we will face scarcity.”

He also dismissed concerns about fuel quality, calling claims of substandard petrol “bogus and unscientific.”

“Before distribution, all products undergo testing to ensure they meet required specifications,” he added.

The NMDPRA reassured Nigerians of steady supply and quality control.
